Steps to Recovery
The inspired men of Alcoholics Anonymous are credited with the discovery of these steps. They seem to be equally as effective in the recovery of pornography addiction.
It is important to realize that each step must be performed. If you’ve ever skipped a step from an instruction manual for a bookshelf or a bicycle, you know the results. It doesn’t quite turn out right.
The steps work, if you work the steps. Ready? Set? Go:
- Admit that you, of yourself, are powerless to overcome your addictions and that your life has become unmanageable.
- Come to believe that the power of God can restore you to complete spiritual health.
- Decide to turn your will and your life over to the care of God (as you understand Him.)
- Make a searching and fearless written moral inventory of yourself.
- Admit to God, to yourself, and to another human being the exact nature of your wrongs.
- Become entirely ready to have God remove all your character weaknesses.
- Humbly ask God to remove your shortcomings.
- Make a written list of all persons you have harmed and become willing to make restitution to them.
- Wherever possible, make direct restitution to all persons you have harmed.
- Continue to take personal inventory, and when you are wrong promptly admit it.
- Seek through prayer and meditation to know God’s will and to have the power to carry it out.
- Having had a spiritual awakening, share this message with others and practice these principles in all you do.
